800 I wanted to love this book. I went in with an open mind but it just did not appeal to me at all. The basic premise of Existential Kink is that is in BDSM kink, people get off on things they normally don't like, therefore we can use that same behaviour to get off on things we don't like in life taking the power away from the shame/guilt and allowing you to feel free.I agree with the authors theory that we go through life ruled by unconscious and hidden behavior patterns. IMHO I agree more with the theory that how we react in the world as adults is based on our familiar, societal and cultural imprinting as young children. I disagree with the theory that everyone deep down enjoys pain as pleasure and 'gets off' on things they don't like. In BDSM not everyone enjoys the same kinks and not everyone enjoys receiving pain as pleasure. Some people enjoy pain, some people enjoy inflicting pain, and others enjoy watching the exchange of pain.I've done a lot of shadow work over the years, and have no hidden shame or guilt sexually. I don't need to "let my inner bad girl out" because she has been unapologetically out for over 25 years. Perhaps this is why I just can't get into this book. I tried to do the exercises but I got no spark or sexual thrill thinking of stuff that I don't like.I think this is probably a great book for people who are more on the submissive side and do have that kind of personality. If you aren't that type of personality, this book probably won't appeal to you.
